Arbitrary arrest of Caaqil Mohamed Abdi Qoudan of Gabiley
Mr. President,
This organization has so far received hundreds of e-mails and calls
from Gabiley communities in North America regarding the Arrest of
the community leader and Caaqil Mohamed Abdi Qoudan of Gabiley. In
respect to their concern we are hereby writing to you for your
action in this end
The arrest of this cultural and community leader, Caaqil Mohamed
Abdi Qoudan of Gabiley was unjustified, disrespectful and offensive to him and to the people of Gabileh
which he represen ts, as it is undemocratic in its totality!
He expressed his thought against what was believed as unfair and
unjust to the people of the Region of Gabileh regarding equity
issues in getting their fair share of government services and
international aids. The last issue which triggered the anger of the
elders of the region was the fiasco regarding the unfair
distribution of the Turkish aid.
This arbitrary and unthoughtful arrest of the said cultural and
community leader is an assault to his rights of expression of
though, as it is to the region at large. What your aids did was ?Afwainistic?
in thought, approach and style! The said community leader expressed
his feelings and the feelings of his people and I believe that is
not a sin, is it?
The Caaqil?s arrest is against the fundamentals of democracy! It is
against Somaliland?s culture, it is unlawful! It is a mindless act
executed by a mindless person or persons. it is a heavy blow to:
1- not only to the Caaqil, physically and emotionally, but to the
people of Gabiley
2- It was a below to freedom of speech
3- It was against the fundamental rights of the citizens
4- It was against democracy
5- It was against what Somaliland stands for
The people are unfortunately, already divided and the country is
divided and these divisions are growing day after day, all because
of the actions, inactions and reactions of your government.
We are calling you Mr. President, that the arrest of the community
leader, Caaqil Qoudan of Gabiley is arbitrary, unjust, and
revengeful. He must be freed as soon as possible
We hope Mr. President that you take these incidents seriously and as
a ?teachable moments? and not a challenge to your sense of self! ?]
We hope you reverse such vindictive and divisive policies. We hope
you bring the people to together, and we hope you and your aids
respect fundamental rights of the citizens of Somaliland. That is
the right way forward for Somaliland.
Thank you
Peace and prayers
Ibrahim Mead
