Well, I think Somaliland fits in Somalia’s conferences where an observer country might fit. Somaliland is not Somalia as Somalia is not Somaliland whether some deny it or not!

Let us take the Dubai conference on what was called Somali pirates. The naming is wrong to begin with!! There is no such thing as Somali pirates! However there is Somalia pirates. Somalia produce s and benefits this evil enterprise. Let us put the brick where it fits. Somaliland is a victim in this like the other international communities are

This piracy thing has nothing to do with Somalis in Ethiopia, the Somalis in Kenya, the Somalis in Djibouti and the Somalis in Somaliland. It was supposed to be called what it is- a Somalia pirate. Somalia produces and benefits this malevolence although the Puntland engulf produces more pirates and benefits it more than the rest of Somalia!

Where Somaliland does fit in this Somalia pirate’s conference? Somaliland fits where ever Yemen and Djibouti fit as the regional countries in Somalia pirate invested Gulf of Aden and the red sea. It did not happen that way in Dubai! Somaliland was rapped up with the pirate invested engulf of punt land and the TFG Somalia sinful carpet! That was wrong, however I trust the Somaliland delegation there will clarify the confusion in there I hope they explained this matter more fully to the UAE officials and rulers

Honesty and steadfastness is the prerequisites for Somaliland leadership to embrace, and those who lead must heed. It also depends on how the Somaliland players push, persist, relentlessly pursue and persevere as long as it takes. Only those who have the emotional connection to Somaliland can endure this!

“Those who faithfully observe their trusts and their covenants and who strictly guard their payers: - these will be the heirs” the righteous will inherit heaven
trust may be express or implied. Express trusts are those where property is entrusts or duties are assigned by some one to some other one whom he trusts to carry out on his behalf.
Implied trusts arise out of power or position or opportunity.
Covenants create obligations. To sum up all, express and implied trusts and covenants taken together cover the whole field of obligation. (Al muminoon ch.18-v, 7&8)

Somaliland has reached what has been expected from her and beyond! They realized what survivals of ethnic cleansing might not be expected to achieve!
Somaliland gathered what ever was left and built her country from the ashes, forgave and moved for ward and they built their country.
In fact they have established a peaceful, democratic and forward moving country
it is time to reward for that. It is time the Gulf States vanguard this undertaking

Somaliland must be rewarded for what she has achieved, all by her self!!

"Somaliland is a peaceful place to go" the UN agencies said that lately! But they recognize Somaliland as a region in a crazy Somalia! Somaliland considers this act as an insult and a spit on her face and on the face of the rights of the people of Somaliland who determined their fate in internationally recognized fashion, with popular referendum! Somaliland and Somalia is an ocean apart in this to begin with!

Somalia does not recognize the rights of the people of Somaliland. For sure they don’t recognize nor do they respect the rights and security of their own people! They consider Somaliland as their property! When they sold their sole and self to foreign entities which calls them to or kicks them out in one place or the other in one time or the other! Crazy proposition from crazy Somalia, isn’t it!

They do not live nor do they believe the practice and the process of democracy. Democracy is foreign to them as they are foreign to it! Somalia does not live in reality on the ground! Somalia does not remember the history of the voluntary union with Somaliland. If she does, Somalia does not know what she is talking about!
They do not confess the ethnic cleansing against Somaliland perpetrated by their own Siyad Barre of Somalia! And lastly they don’t exist as one entity to talk to by Somaliland in the first place!

The UN in general and UNDP in particular had a dismal and unhelpful record in Somaliland, for the almost twenty year period Somaliland divorced Somalia [as the mother of the union with Somalia].
Somaliland called off that union with Somalia after Somalia executed an ethnic cleansing scheme in Somaliland and eventually Somaliland (SNM) defeated the Somalia’s genocidal regime of Siyad Barre, thus declared their independence by withdrawing the union from Somalia!

Somaliland recalled and restored its independence and they declared that in Borao convention in 1991where reconciliation and forgiveness of Somaliland communities took effect after the SNM movement defeated the dictatorial regime of (Siyad Bare) Somalia, and declared the independence of Somaliland there.

Borama’s convention followed this in1993. And in Borama a government of national unity was established where by the SNM movement handed over the government to a civilian government headed by president Egale. This was a unique move on the part of SNM. This kind of transferee of government in peaceful and democratic process never happened in any where in the third world or rarely happened! A popular referendum where people voted 97% yes for Somaliland’s withdrawal from the union with Somalia followed that in 2001

The first transfer of power from triumphant movement to a civilian was born there and that took place in a democratic process. That tradition is still going on. Very recently a defeated government conceded and an elected one took over power of government in Somaliland peacefully as expected. Nothing of this magnitude and nothing of this sort ever happened not only in our region but in Africa in general, forget Somalia in this respect!

The UN and its agencies neither see this as an exemplary example for Somalia and for others in the region, nor did they ever appreciate that achievement aside from token words! In fact they tend to deny that achievement! Some times they were at war with Somaliland! it seems as though they say: “why don’t you become like your brothers in -Somalia! We don’t like what you did! Your wonderful achievement is incongruent to our project which is Somalia!! Come on board if you need help!”

Somaliland gave her people peace, stability and all kinds of development; socially, economically and political that associate with the above virtues of peace and stability according to her ability. Some people don’t appreciate this. In fact some people hate that achievement reached by Somaliland people with little help from out side world!

Somaliland succeeded to establish a never-before seen relationship with her neighbours-Ethiopia and Djibouti. They established a people to people movement, and a government to government cooperation and understanding.
Somalia on the other hand de-stabilized the tranquility and peace of the whole region! And not only that, they destabilized the world- wide shipping in both the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean by investing a young sea bandits there
Somaliland curbed all that evil activity from her shores with little or no help from the international community, all by her self!

Somaliland has survived from the Saudi Arabia’s economic embargo on her! She survived from subversive activities originated from a neighbouring entity which does not like the people-successes, and the democratic achievements Somaliland has achieved!
In all these the UN agencies particularly the UNDP did not play a positive roll!
They were not part of the solution; on the contrary they were part of the problem as far as Somaliland is concerned!

They never respected nor recognized the aspirations and achievements Somaliland has realized. Somaliland has survived from all that too! That is another achievement, isn’t it?!
Now, are they are still acting arrogantly and spitting Somaliland people on the face with their acts and some times reactions! According to the Nairobi conference agenda they are still denying and degrading the aspirations and achievements Somaliland has realized for her people!

The mantra of this new government is and supposed to be ‘transparency’. People ask this:
As Somaliland is not a region, as it is not a part of Somalia but an independent Republic recognized by her people and her government, under what conditions and terms the UN representative is insisting and appealing Somaliland to participate the Somalia conference in Nairobi, Kenya? And what terms and conditions Somaliland willing offered to work with the UN Representative? “What is the deal hear?” one my wonder!
What is the plan of the government if they (UN and others) sing the same old song, denying the existence of an existed and vibrant Somaliland against a none-existent and failed Somalia? I believe they did just that with a little sweetener when they allocated a box with strange name tag (other delegate!) for Somaliland in al ready failed Nairobi Somalia conference, as reported!

Somaliland has lived and even thrived {relatively} with out (the UN) them and will be so in the future with or with out them if they don’t change their attitude, behavior and policies against the independence of Somaliland.

It is the aspirations and the self determination of the people that is sacrosanct [ Muqadas] and that is what counts. No one else has the right to deny or evade or stampede or twist this inherently human rights for a people strived and spoken loud and clear to return their lost Republic of Somaliland, be it local or foreign elements or groups!

Somaliland people have spoken, in no ambiguous terms, in their referendum of 2001. They chose to be independent despite all the difficults entailed by this decision. They lived and they live in this situation fine! That is a forgone conclusion. Again, the sacrosanctness of this matter is a non-negotiable bond: thus there is no space for politics for any one while we shouldn’t close flexibility and compromises in certain other important issues, like compensation of the thousands of people and material Somaliland lost during the ethnic cleansing. Also like open borders and trade with Somalia when and if they show interest in these areas.

It is incumbent upon this government to do the peoples’ business first, second and third, and do it right before any other (peoples) business.
Somaliland, may one day sit for negotiations with other entities, Somalia and others. Somaliland is not afraid of talking to a sane Somalia when they summon their sanity and come to existence but not to a non-existent, and insane and fragmented Somalia!

Where would Somaliland fits in the said conference in Nairobi, Kenya? No where as far as Somaliland is concerned! May be as an observer
Now they are enticing Somaliland to come to that conference and for that reason they put her in a position of neither the conference delegate’s box nor the observer’s box!! They put her in a separate box called other delegates with four participants as the Somalia factions! This is a sweetened way of calling Somaliland a faction of Somalia and that is a cause for concern! It is preposterous to say it mildly! It is a no go proposition as far as Somaliland is not dead and she is not dead yet

Can this canning game work? That depends on the honesty and the robustness of the Somaliland leadership. I don’t worry about the persistence and toughness of the people of Somaliland We shall see!
